Welshpool High School is a caring and open community that strives to achieve the best for every one of our students. It is also a highly successful school in academic, cultural and sporting terms. We are a happy and confident school.

As a school we reflect the best of traditional values and practices while responding to the needs of a changing world. Students are encouraged to be self-disciplined and to show a sense of mutual respect. They are encouraged to aim high and work hard towards the fulfilment of their ambitions and potential. We want them to hold high expectations of themselves and their school. A rigorous academic mentoring programme supports this and parents receive reports three times a year to inform them of their child’s progress.

We are continuing to strive to improve our facilities for the benefit of our students and the community at large.

We have our own Community Theatre, ‘Theatr Clera’. This is used for a variety of events and additionally there has been an extensive remodelling of our Sixth Form study facilities. We also have a £450,000 flood-lit Astro Turf pitch which is used extensively by the school and the local community. In addition a similar investment from the county Council has seen additional classroom space, laboratories and Sixth Form facilities added to the school’s accommodation.

Young people need to learn to work with adults in a co-operative and purposeful way and we view the partnership between home and school as essential to successful education.

One of our greatest assets is the quality of staff. There are active links with business and industry and a close relationship exists with our primary schools. The Governing Body serves the school extremely well.

We also encourage you to think of a 7 year partnership with your child staying with us until ‘A’ level stage, not just GCSEs. We aim to establish good working relationships with parents and carers, and hold the view that supportive parenting, in terms of parents/carers who reinforce and value the ethos and rules of the school, is essential to a child’s success and well being throughout their school education.

Therefore, with your support, together we can ensure that your child enjoys an effective and rewarding secondary education.
